Grits Dumplings / Kozhukattai

When Jayasree posted Cornmeal Kozhukattais, I had to try it out because I always like the idea of using American ingredients in our Indian cooking. (Example: Zucchini Daal, Grits Pongal, Grits Adai).  I had bought cornmeal to prepare bread, but somehow did not even get close to finding an eggless cornmeal bread recipe.  Read the rest of this entry »

Your Recipe Rocks!I’m back from a short trip to New York and New Jersey.  Since it’s my mother’s first visit to US, we started off our sight seeing agenda with New York.  We wanted to avoid the queues and traffic of the long weekend, so we shifted our trip to Wednesday and Thursday.  It clearly was a very good idea, because we did evidence the unbelievable traffic jam towards New Jersey, when we were heading back home.

Cracked Wheat & Spinach Pongal - Your Recipe Rocks

Cracked Wheat Pongal

These days I’m using a lot of cracked wheat and grits in my cooking, by substituting it for rice.  Sometime back I made pongal using cracked wheat and moong daal, but it did not come out well.  From then on I was wondering how to get it right and finally I found the recipe for it in Sailu’s blog.  Added benefit, she has also included spinach in her broken wheat pongal recipe.  The recipe is very simple to follow and it came out very well.  Only change I made in the recipe was using frozen spinach instead of fresh spinach leaves. Thank you very much Sailu for such an healthy and tasty recipe.  Your recipe rocks!

Poha Upma

Yesterday I prepared Uma’s Murmura (Pori) Upma.  The upma was absolutely delicious.  It’s a very light meal, suited for breakfast with some tea/coffee or juice or can be given as after school/work snack.  I made it for my husband, but that day he came from office around 6.15pm.  We usually have dinner around 6.30pm.  So he ate the upma and I also prepared his favorite cracked wheat kanji for dinner.    Read the rest of this entry »
